Overview

Lady in Red is a South African non-profit cultural and educational initiative founded in 2015.
Through its signature event — the Lady in Red Opera Gala Dinner — and year-round support programmes, the initiative champions youth empowerment, educational equity, and artistic excellence.

Operating at the intersection of music, mentorship, and social mobility, Lady in Red provides bursaries, life-skills development, academic support, and exposure to the performing arts to academically gifted learners from under-resourced schools, primarily in Cape Town’s townships.

Vision

To create a South Africa where every talented learner — regardless of their background or circumstances — is empowered with the opportunities, resources, and mentorship needed to thrive academically, artistically, and professionally.

We envision a nation where potential is not defined by privilege, but by passion and perseverance; where young people from under-resourced communities can rise as scholars, artists, and leaders who shape a more inclusive, creative, and equitable society.

Mission

To combine the power of the arts and education in creating sustainable pathways for transformation by:

  • Facilitating tertiary bursaries through strategic partnerships
  • Offering long-term academic, emotional, and life-skills support.
  • Elevating student talent through high-profile cultural platforms.
  • Advocating for inclusive, high-quality education in underserved communities.
